Series: Experiencing God: The Adventure of Recognizing His Voice

How do we recognize when God is inviting us to join Him in His work?

In Episode 2 of the Experiencing God series, we explore one of the most powerful moments in Scripture—the encounter between Moses and the burning bush in Exodus 3.

Moses was living an ordinary life in the wilderness when God interrupted his routine with a divine invitation that would change history forever. Like Moses, we often encounter moments that feel like interruptions, challenges, or unexpected opportunities—but they may actually be God calling us to participate in His purposes.

In this episode of Beyond Belief, we explore how to recognize God's invitations, respond with faith, and step into the adventure of walking with Him.

You’ll discover:

• Why God’s invitations often appear as interruptions
• How ordinary moments can become divine opportunities
• Why God invites the willing, not the equipped
• What Moses’ encounter at the burning bush (Exodus 3) teaches us about obedience
• How one act of faith can create a ripple effect beyond what we can see

If you've ever wondered whether God is calling you to something more, this episode will help you begin recognizing His voice and His invitations in everyday life.

Welcome back to Beyond Belief, where we learn to recognize the quiet whispers and the bold interruptions of God in our lives. The last episode, we discovered that God is already at work around us. Today, we step deeper into how God invites us to join him in his work. Often these invitations challenge us, surprise us, and stretch us beyond what we think we're capable of. This is episode two, recognizing the invitation of God. Let's step into the story. Have you ever had someone ask you to do something? And at first you thought, I can't. Maybe it was helping someone you didn't feel qualified to help. Maybe it was speaking up when your voice trembled. Maybe it was stepping into a role you never planned for. That is often what God's invitations feel like. They show up disguised as interruptions, challenges, or unexpected opportunities. Imagine this. A friend calls, desperate, you're busy, stressed, you almost ignore it. But five minutes later, the answer you give, the prayer you pray, changes the trajectory of their life. That was God inviting you to participate. God's invitations often look like interruptions, but they're the path to his work. A couple of years ago, I was comfortable. Life felt predictable. I had a plan. Then, God placed someone in my life who needed prayer, guidance, and encouragement. I tried to ignore it. I thought, I don't have the time. I'm not equipped. This is not part of my plan. But that moment became one of the most pivotal in my spiritual journey. God was inviting me into his work, not something I could manufacture on my own. In Exodus 3, verse 3 to 4, we read, Moses said, I will go over and see this strange sight. When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called him from within the bush, Moses, Moses. God called Moses by name, not a voice from heaven, not a grand announcement, just the call. And Moses? He said yes. We all get called in small ways every day. Maybe it's helping a coworker, maybe checking in on a friend, maybe obeying a prompting we can't fully explain. The challenge is recognizing the invitation. Too often we mistake it for coincidence, obligation, or interruption. Imagine a cup overflowing with water. If you ignore it, it spills. But if you direct it wisely, it nourishes others. That is God's invitation in our daily lives. God's invitations rarely look like fireworks. They usually look like nudges. Let's dig deeper into Moses and the burning bush. Moses had spent his life in Egypt, then fled to a quiet, ordinary desert life, and God called. In Exodus 3, verse 5 to 10, it says, Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. I have indeed seen the misery of my people. So now go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people out of Egypt. This is the moment of the divine invitation. God isn't asking Moses to create the plan, he's asking him to participate. God's call often requires courage beyond our comfort. But he never leaves us alone. A teacher, a parent, a young adult. Anyone can feel unqualified. Yet God's invitations rarely match our self-perception. They match his purpose. God invites the willing, not the equipped. Imagine Moses walking across the desert, dust blowing across the sand, wind whipping, a bush bursts into flame. The fire doesn't consume it, it illuminates it. Moses approaches, curious but hesitant, and God speaks his name. That moment changed history. God's call changes everything. Even if it seems small at first. One step of obedience can rewrite a life or a nation. Where might God be inviting you today? That co-worker, that friend, that opportunity you are hesitating to step into. God's invitations often show up in ordinary moments. A single act of obedience can trigger a ripple you'll never see. One conversation, one prayer, one act of kindness. In Isaiah 6, verse 8 it says, Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And I said, Here am I, send me. History is full of ordinary people who said yes to God. Moses, Abraham, Mary, Peter. They were not extraordinary, just willing. Second Chronicles 16, verse 9 reads, For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. God is scanning the earth, looking for people who will simply say yes. That person could be you. Here are three questions to take away from this episode today. Where is God inviting me today? What am I hesitating to step into? And am I willing to say yes? Pray this prayer this week. Lord, show me where you are working. Help me recognize your invitations, and give me the courage to join you. And now, may you see God's invitations all around you, in small moments and unexpected interruptions. May you have courage to say yes, even when it stretches you. May your obedience ripple farther than you can imagine, and may your life reflect his purpose, light, and love. Thank you for listening to Beyond Belief. If this episode encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to hear it. Go into your week with open ears, open hands, and a willing heart. God bless.
