Welcome back to Beyond Belief, where we explore how God is moving in ordinary life and extraordinary ways. Today we're diving into a question every believer struggles with. How do I hear God? How does God speak? God is not silent, but his voice often comes in ways we don't expect. This is episode three. How God speaks today. Let's step into the story. Have you ever asked God a question and heard nothing? You prayed, you waited, you listened, and silence. Then, hours, days, or even years later, the answer comes, but in a way you never imagined. God speaks, but not always the way we picture. Sometimes it's a whisper, sometimes a circumstance, sometimes through a person. Imagine waiting months for a letter. Finally it arrives, but in a completely unexpected way. A friend slips it into your bag, unnoticed until later. God speaks like that too. His timing and method often surprises us. God speaks, but his voice often comes disguised. Now, I've also struggled to hear God sometimes. I've prayed for direction, yet often felt no answer came. Then I noticed the pattern. God spoke, not in grand visions, but in ordinary life. A casual conversation, a sudden opportunity. A scripture verse that seemed to leap off the page. Slowly I began to recognize his voice. Psalm 119, verse 105 says, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. God speaks clearly through his word, illuminating the path we might otherwise stumble along. One morning, over a simple cup of coffee, a friend shared a thought. It seemed ordinary until I realized God was using it to answer a prayer I'd carried for months. Many of us struggle in the same way. We long for God to speak dramatically, booming voice, flashing lights, undeniable signs. But God usually communicates in ways we must learn to recognize through his word, through others, through circumstances, through prayer, through the Holy Spirit nudging our hearts. A teacher tells the students to watch for signs of rain. Only those prepared notice the subtle hint: dark clouds, cool winds, distant thunder. Recognizing God's voice requires the same kind of attention. If you aren't paying attention, God's voice will pass unnoticed. In Hebrews chapter 1, verse 1 and 2, we hear. Imagine standing at sea, lost in darkness. The lighthouse doesn't move, it shines constantly. The ship must notice and respond. God's voice is like that, constant, available, but we must train ourselves to recognize it. Sometimes God speaks through unexpected channels, a friend, a dream, a sudden opportunity. The ordinary becomes extraordinary when we recognize his voice. Picture a young woman praying for clarity on a major life decision. Nothing happens until a neighbor drops by with an insight she had never considered. That small, ordinary moment becomes God speaking. God often doesn't speak loudly, he speaks subtly. But subtle doesn't mean insignificant. Where is God speaking to you today? At work, at home, through a friend, through a verse you read? The key is recognition and obedience. A small act of listening, a single obedience, can create ripples we never see. One prayer, one word of encouragement, one act of service can change lives. John 10, verse 27 reads, My sheep listen to my voice. I know them, and they follow me. Listening to God is the first step to walking with him. God is always speaking. The challenge isn't his silence, it's our attention. Moses, Mary, Peter, and countless ordinary believers recognized God's voice and responded, their yes changed history. You are standing in a moment where God may be speaking to you right now. Three questions for this episode. Where have I felt God's subtle nudge? Have I been paying attention to ordinary moments? And what is my next step of obedience in response? Pray this prayer. Lord, open my eyes to your voice. Teach me to hear you in ordinary moments. Give me courage to respond. God is speaking. Will you listen? Will you obey? Your adventure begins the moment you do. And now, may you hear God's whispers today. May you recognize his voice in ordinary moments.
