Welcome to Beyond Belief, a place where we step beyond surface-level Christianity, beyond comfortable religion, beyond traditions we inherited but really questioned, and rediscover the radical message of Jesus. Because somewhere along the way, many of us learned how to believe in Jesus without ever fully understanding what Jesus actually taught. We learned the stories, we memorized the verses, we sang the songs. But if we're honest, sometimes the message of Jesus has become familiar enough that we stop hearing it. And when that happens, something extraordinary can be hiding in plain sight. Because when you open the Gospels and really listen, you discover something surprising. Jesus talked about one subject more than anything else. Not church attendance, not politics, not religious debate. He talked about a kingdom. A kingdom that was breaking into the world. A kingdom that was turning expectations upside down. A kingdom where the last became first, the humble became great, the broken are welcomed, and grace changes everything. And once you truly understand what Jesus meant, you realize something very powerful. Following Jesus was never meant to be a religious label, it was meant to be a new way to live. This is beyond belief. Let me ask you a question. If somebody asked you right now, what was the main message Jesus preached? What would you say? Would you say love, forgiveness, salvation, heaven? Those are all important, but none of them were actually the primary message Jesus announced. When Jesus began his ministry, he walked into towns and villages across Galilee and declared something bold, something revolutionary, something that sounded almost unbelievable. He said, The kingdom of God is near. Imagine hearing those words for the first time, because in the ears of the people who heard him, those words carried explosive meaning. Hi everyone, and welcome to Beyond Belief. I'm really glad you're here. Whether you're listening while driving, walking through your neighborhood, or sitting quietly with a cup of coffee, or lying awake late at night. I'm grateful you chose to spend this time with me. Because today we're starting something special, a ten-part journey through the teachings of Jesus. And we're beginning with the foundation of everything he taught: the message that started it all, the announcement that changed history, the kingdom of God. I remember a moment years ago when something in my understanding of Christianity shifted. I had grown up around church. I knew the Bible stories. I believed in Jesus. I believed he died for my sins. I believed the gospel. But one day I was reading the gospels again, and something suddenly stood out. Almost every time Jesus spoke publicly, he talked about the kingdom of God over and over again. And I realized something surprising. I had believed in Jesus for years, but I didn't really understand the kingdom he was talking about. And that realization started a journey. Because when you begin to see the kingdom theme in the Gospels, you start seeing it everywhere. Jesus talks about it in parables, he talks about it in sermons, he talks about it in conversation. The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. The kingdom of God is like hidden treasure. The kingdom of God is like yeast and dough. The kingdom of God is like a net cast into the sea. It's everywhere. And that raises a question. If the kingdom of God was central to Jesus' message, why do so many Christians barely talk about it? Maybe you felt this too. Many of us grew up hearing about heaven. We heard about salvation, we heard about going to heaven when we die. And those things matter deeply. But when you read the words of Jesus carefully, his message seems bigger than that. Because Jesus wasn't just preparing people for life after death, he was announcing something happening right now. Something breaking into the world, something changing lives in the present. And for many of us, that's where curiosity begins. Because if the kingdom of God is real, what exactly is it? Let's listen to the moment Jesus began his public ministry. Matthew 4, verse 17 says, From that time on, Jesus began to preach, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near. Now notice something important. Jesus didn't start by explaining theology. He didn't start by establishing religious rules. He started with an announcement: the kingdom of heaven has come near. But for the people hearing him, this phrase meant something very specific. For centuries, the Jewish people had been waiting, waiting for God to act, waiting for a Messiah, waiting for a king who would restore Israel. They believed God would one day establish his kingdom on earth, a kingdom of justice, a kingdom of peace, a kingdom where evil would finally be defeated. And then Jesus walks into Galilee and says, The kingdom of God is near. Imagine hearing that. Because what Jesus was saying was astonishing. God's long-awaited kingdom was arriving. Picture the scene. Dusty roads in Galilee, fishing boats rocking gently on the Sea of Galilee, farmers working their fields, ordinary people living ordinary lives. And suddenly a young rabbi appears, walking from village to village, and everywhere he goes, he announces the same message. People start whispering, could it be? Is God finally doing something? Is the waiting over? Hope begins to stir in hearts that had almost given up. Now, here's the surprising part. Most people expected a political revolution, a military leader, a king who would overthrow Rome. But Jesus had something completely different in mind. Instead of overthrowing armies, he transformed hearts. Instead of conquering nations, he healed the broken. Instead of building an empire, he formed a community of love. The kingdom Jesus announced was not about domination, it was about transformation. Jesus explains the kingdom using stories. One day he said, The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. Now, a mustard seed is tiny, almost invisible. But when planted, it grows into something much larger. And Jesus says that's what the kingdom is like: small beginnings, quiet growth, unexpected transformation. Think about the people Jesus invited into his kingdom: fishermen, tax collectors, outcasts, sinners, people society had rejected. And Jesus looked at them and said, Follow me. Not the powerful, not the elite, but ordinary people. And through them, he started something that would change the world. So, what does this mean for us? If the kingdom of God is real, then following Jesus isn't just about believing certain things, it's about stepping into a new way of living, a kingdom way, where forgiveness replaces bitterness, where generosity replaces greed, where love replaces hatred, where hope replaces fear. Every time someone lives in this way, the kingdom becomes visible. And one day Jesus stood before a crowd and he said words that still echo today. He said, Seek first the kingdom of God. Not second, not someday, first. Because the kingdom of God is the reality that changes everything else. When the kingdom becomes your priority, your values change, your relationships change, your purpose changes, your life changes. Here's the truth I want you to remember. The gospel is not just about going to heaven someday. It's about heaven beginning to transform your life today. So here's a question for you for this episode. What would it look like if you lived as a citizen of God's kingdom? What would change? Your priorities, your conversations, your responses, your generosity, your forgiveness, small decisions, but kingdom impact. May you begin to see the kingdom of God all around you. In acts of kindness, in moments of grace, in lives being transformed, and may you discover the joy of living the way Jesus taught. Thank you for joining me on Beyond Belief. If this episode encouraged you, share it with someone who needs hope today. Because the message of Jesus is too powerful to keep to ourselves. Because when ordinary people begin living the teachings of Jesus, the kingdom of God stops being an idea and starts becoming a reality. And that changes everything.
